Messed Up Memory

A long-time friend asked me if Don has a shred of anything left of his prior personality before stroke. Does he connect on any level? My answer was not anymore.

He wandered out to the kitchen on Sunday, wanting to know where is the bathroom? A bathroom that is located 6 feet from his recliner chair. When I walked him back to the bedroom and pointed out the bathroom, he told me someone was already in there. I showed him that was not the case and then he asked me what time I will go home?

If there’s any connection, it’s fleeting, and it’s usually about sports. NASCAR Cup championship race was Sunday, November 10, 2024. I turned his TV on for the race and asked him who he thinks will win? He said Junior. That meant Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Junior retired from racing in 2017, and has been a commentator ever since, among other television programs about racing. This is an example of a big piece of the puzzle that is missing from a prior life together. The wheel is still turning, but a big chunk in the middle is gone.

Note to Self: One more missing piece, and the wheel is no longer rolling.
