Call Center

I settle in on a cold Sunday to watch two NFL playoff games after I get Don started on his TV. He watches from a warm and cozy bed, not wanting to brave the cool temperatures. Beginning the 4th quarter of Game #1, Don appears at the bottom of the stairs to my office. All my readers should be familiar by now with his uncanny timing. Don always has a need right at the crucial moments of a sporting event I am watching.

Don: What are you doing here?

Kristy: Watching an NFL playoff game, same as you. What are you doing today?

Don: I’m leaving to head over to the new call center to meet someone.

Kristy: I think you are mistaken. Nobody contacted me about any meeting at a call center.

Don: It’s new.

Kristy: Yeah, OK, but still nobody contacted you or me about any meeting. You need to go back and bundle up in your room. It’s cold out here in the rest of the house.

Don: Where do I stay tonight?

Kristy: Turn around and go back to where you came from.

Don: Did you lease this house?

Kristy: No, I bought it.

Don: No kidding. You bought it? Wow!

Kristy: Can I get you some clam chowder for lunch?

Don: No, just cookies.

We could have skipped all the crazy small talk and went straight to cookies. Unfortunately, Don never shows such courtesy on game day.

Game #2 starts and Don comes back to the bottom of the stairs to my office.

Kristy: What do you need?

Don: It smells like garbage right here.

Kristy: I took out the garbage between games.

Don: It still stinks right here.

Kristy: Then it’s you. Go take a shower.

Max, who was sitting in my lap, perked up and jumped down when Don appeared near the stairs. Even the cat knows, Dude, when are you gonna learn to leave her alone during game time? It worked out well, though. He didn’t want to take a shower, and I didn’t want to get up to go sniff around for garbage.

Note to Self: Yeah, there will be a 3rd visit or more. It’s only halftime of Game #2.
