In nothing else is he rich, in nothing else is he poor.”

Well, then, Don must be in the no-man’s-territory of memory land. He remembers very few things correctly and none that apply to daily living in the here and now.
A friend of mine and blog follower messaged me, just this week, that it saddens her knowing what used to be for Don and me and comparing it to now. We, no doubt, have the expected good days and bad days. I try to use humor to enjoy the good and survive the bad. Unfortunately, some days, plain and simple, are just not funny.
The mindset of a prisoner incarcerated on a life sentence in the movie The Shawshank Redemption was that he should “get busy living, or get busy dying.” Finding ourselves caught somewhere in the middle is our prison. Make no mistake. Although we are both alive, the scenario we find ourselves in is not living. The daily grind we referred to in younger years led to something tangible like money in your pocket, a home, good food, travel, cars, hobbies, fun with family and friends, or saved for retirement. Today’s grind leads absolutely nowhere, yet it is just as exhausting.
Before retirement, when I was still part of the workforce, we all joked that we needed a benefit called a mental health day off work aka a personal day off for no particular reason. I’m pretty sure I never needed that benefit then, as bad as I do now.
Note to Self: I need a mental health portable charging station plugged into every outlet in the house and one for the car.
