Breakfast is Don’s favorite meal and the easiest to get him to eat. Many conversations with him revolve around breakfast time and his choices for the day. He wakes up, at any time of the day, and he instantly thinks it’s breakfast time.
I keep his room stocked with an abundance of breakfast items that don’t require cooking. If he wants items that need cooking, I do the cooking part. He cannot do much in the kitchen with only one arm and he no longer comprehends when is the appropriate time to turn on a burner or the oven.
Today he declines cooked items and hands me an empty container that was a Fruit Loops single serving of cereal.
Kristy: Are you sure there’s not something more you need?
Don: No thanks. That cereal was pretty good with water.
Kristy: There’s milk in your refrigerator.
I get the one-shoulder shrug.
Note to Self: The cereal is not the only thing fruit loops in the room this morning.
