Genevieve

The cast has added a new character. Genevieve is now Derrick’s live-in girlfriend, and we love visiting with these two. There is always a lot of laughing, like the time the 4 of us went to a local restaurant for dinner and loaded up in the wrong car to go home. It made sense 1 might make that mistake, but all 4 of us?

They came to visit today and brought dinner. Don and I split a french dip that was one of the best we’ve had in a long time. While spilling au jus on himself, on the table, down a table leg and onto the floor, Don also entertained us with talk about all the cats everyone has owned, including mistakenly identifying our own beloved felines who are no longer with us. He thought Mickey was Maui.

As Derrick and Genevieve were preparing to leave, Don starts nodding off and decides to go to bed. I assist him to get up and he says his goodbyes and thanks the kids for coming. A few feet from his bedroom door, Don turns to me and tells me to give them money. He does not explain what for or when. Hours later, Don wakes up and floats into the kitchen to prep a breakfast.

Kristy: It’s not time for breakfast. It’s 11:00 p.m.

Don: I have to catch a plane in 1 hour.

Kristy: We are located more than 1 hour from the airport, so you won’t make that flight tonight.

Don: No, that’s not right.

Kristy: I will reschedule your flight.

He drifts off to bed no longer interested in breakfast or prepping to leave for the airport. I didn’t bother to ask what his destination would be.

Note to Self: The problem with fabricating answers for immediate results is what to say should he remember I offered to reschedule the flight.
